John Steele aired as a weekly program full of âsuspense and hard, fast action.â Don Douglas played our hero, John Steele, who treks sweaty-browed through jungles and deserts, fighting lions and saving women. Thrilling indeed!

The early plots on Counterspy were counterespionage against Germany's Gestapo and Japan's Black Dragon while WWII plots focused on more generic counter-espionage plots like those of I was a Communist for the FBI, This is Your FBI and FBI in Peace and War.10 episodes

Crime Does Not Pay was an anthology radio crime drama series based on MGM's short film series. The films began in 1935 with Crime Does Not Pay: Buried Loot. For the most part, actors who appeared in B-films were featured, but occasionally, one of MGM's major stars would make an appearance. The radio series aired in New York on WMGM (October 10, 1949-October 10, 1951) and then moved to the Mutual network (January 7-December 22, 1952). Actors included Bela Lugosi, Everett Sloane, Ed Begley, John...

This includes 90+ episodes of Dangerous Assignment (1949 and 1950-53) with proper names for the episodes. Also, it's been a common practice to "pad" the episodes of Dangerous Assignment by adding dead air to the end of the recording so that the episode is 32 minutes in length. All such padding has been removed. Episode names obtained from the Digital Deli: http://www.digitaldeliftp.com/DigitalDeliToo/dd2jb-Dangerous-Assignment.html

Bold Venture is the radio adventure series starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall that originally aired in 1951-52. Bogart plays hotel and boat owner Slate Shannon, and Bacall plays his ward, Sailor Duval. The two often became entangled in tight situations when hiring their services to shady characters. These episodes sound clean, clear and full, thanks to the folks at http://bold-venture.co.uk/. The episode titles follow the work done by Digital Deli Too...

Kaye starred in a radio program of his own, The Danny Kaye Show, on CBS in 1945-1946. Despite its clever writing (by radio legend Goodman Ace, Sylvia Fine, and respected playwright-director Abe Burrows) and performing cast (including Eve Arden, Lionel Stander, and big bandleader Harry James), the show lasted only a year.

Pete Kelley Blues (1951) arrived on radio almost two years after Jack Webb reached stardom in Dragnet. All the Webb trademarks were here: the quips, the snappy comebacks, the short-tempered realism. Much of the show's appeal was in the music: Webb was a lifelong fan of hot jazz. This is one of Webb's best shows and the basis of his 1955 film of the same name. Jack Webb left Pat Novak in San Francisco to go to Hollywood, and Mutual hoped he could bring the magic to a similar character by the name of Johnny Madero. Mutual's remake of Madero prompted legal threats of ABC. So some facts were changed. Wise drunk Jocko Madigan of Pat Novak was replaced by a waterfront priest named Father Leahy. Other than that and a change to the opening, it's hard to tell the difference between the two shows, except Webb amped up the similies from Pat Novak.

INNER SANCTUM MYSTERIES The anthology series featured stories of mystery, terror and suspense, and its tongue-in-cheek introductions were in sharp contrast to shows like Suspense and The Whistler . The early 1940s programs opened with Raymond Edward Johnson introducing himself as, "Your host, Raymond," in a mocking sardonic voice. A spooky melodramatic organ score (played by Lew White) punctuated Raymond's many morbid jokes and playful puns. Raymond's closing was an elongated...

PORTS OF CALL An obscure series from 1935 or 1936 in which each episode deals with a voyage to a different country where events of that country's history are dramatized. They each begin with the low moan of a tramp steamer's whistle and the announcement of the series title, followed by a musical interlude. From the Old Time Radio Researcher's Group. See "Note" Section below for more information on the OTRR.

Martha Wilkerson (AKA G.I. Jill) hosted a couple shows on the United States government-produced Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS). One program she hosted was G.I. Jive ( http://archive.org/details/AfrsG.i.Jive ) and another was Jill's All-Time Jukebox, which ran concurrent to the other show during part of its run (she mentions it during G.I. Jive). Also see The Army-Navy Screen Magazine 55 (1945) here on Archive.org. I only have 5 Jill's All-Time Jukebox shows :( but there are some real gems....

These vintage radio commercials from the 1920s thru the 1950s are great fun to listen to and tell you more about American culture than you would ever realize! Filled with catchy jingles, great products, many of which we still used today, and outrageous claims abound! Most of these where sponsors on the old time radio shows. I hope you enjoy this collection.

The old time radio series "Nick Carter, Master Detective" had a short run as a serialized adventure. Few of these episodes exist.

These jingles were transfered from 45rpm 7" vinyl records produced by the Allied Radio Artists company, and sent to radio stations in the 1950s. They are courtesy of the private collection of Ernie Prentice, a baritone singer from Vancouver BC who died in 1997, who appears on some of these recording sessions (no full performer or songwriter credits exist). A few have an announcer reading advertising copy on the records, but most have instrumental breaks for local radio DJ's to read over at...

Curtain Time Curtain Time had two separate runs on radio. The fist run was sponsored by General Mills from 1937 to 1939 and the second aired from 1945 to 1950, sponsored by the Mars Candy Co. Interesting is that this romantic drama had a theater setting and announcements with the announcer shouting "tickets please". Many of the episodes were romantic stories where a boy meets his dream girl and what happens afterwards. Announcer for the series was Harry Halcomb who was later known...

Bill Stern was a sportscaster who when not in the broadcast booth, had a 15 minute program where he relayed exciting stories about his guests. The stories were similar to the kind Paul Harvey would tell years later in his "The Rest of the Story" program. Stern would add drama and excitement to the stories, well beyond what they deserved, and focused on irony or coincidence. They are entertaining. For some sports figures, the Stern shows are the only recordings that exist of their...

Grand Central Station was drama program, with an innocent soap opera quality, that was well-known in the golden age of radio. The most memorable part of its opening was the sound of steam engines pulling into the station with the announcer saying "...GRAND CENTRAL STATION! The crossroads of a million private lives, a gigantic stage on which are played a thousand dramas daily... " The show ran for nearly 20 years, but few episodes survive. For more information...
